Embroidery Guide: Ari, Zardozi, and Tilla

Every embroidery technique tells a different story. Zardozi uses metallic threads to create raised geometric patterns that catch the light. Ari work builds chain-stitch motifs with a hooked needle, flowing into floral and paisley designs. Tilla work wraps metallic thread around a silk core for a subtler shimmer.

At the JOGI atelier, each technique is chosen for the garment it will live on — zardozi for bridal and formal pieces, ari for flowing pret silhouettes, and tilla for understated evening wear.

When you understand the technique, you understand the time. A single zardozi motif can take days to complete by hand.
